The ETRUSCAN Road of Zinghera
The Zinghera road, part of the ancient Etruscan road axis that connected Vetulonia with the sea, has been traveled by men for millennia. This track road of extraordinary charm will take us into a dense oak forest where nature reigns supreme. We will skirt the Alma stream, which gives its name to the Pian d’Alma locality and we will walk it almost to its source, admiring the change of vegetation from Mediterranean scrub to hilly wood. At the top of the route we will have the opportunity to visit an ancient stone quarry dating back to the Etruscan period, strongly connected to the Necropolis of Poggio Tondo, a few kilometers downstream, from where our journey begins. A leap in time between Etruscans and ancient mills, where with the help of the Environmental Hiking Guide we will learn to read the territory and interpret its many naturalistic, geological and historical facets.
